All about the Explore Real Georgia.

Trip is planned entirely to introduce history, culture and traditions of the people who managed to preserve originality and self-identity. Georgian’s fought to maintain their independence and national integrity over the centuries.

Language – with its unique alphabet and script belonging to Caucasian group of languages, evolved from eastern Aramaic around 5th century BC. It’s placed among fourteen original alphabets around the world.

Land – Nation emerged from 8th century BC.  By uniting the indigenous tribes called Karts living south from the great Caucasus range. These people were developed in agriculture and viniculture, the Greeks called us “Georgians” from the Greek word “geos” meaning earth.

Religion –In the first half of the 4th century Christianity was adopted as the state religion. This has provided a strong sense of national identity that has helped to preserve a national identity, despite repeated periods of foreign occupation and attempted assimilation.

This tour reveals the history of Georgian art, culture, architect, religion and traditions from past to modern. As a cross-road country with mixture of European and Asian cultural influence, Georgia astonishes visitors with its unique hospitality filled with warm spirit of local people.

Tour starts with sightseeing tour of Tbilisi and continues to nearly all provinces of Georgia covering the World heritage sites, sacred painted churches, ancient rock-hewn cities, ethnographical and history museums.

During these 14 days you will cross Georgia from highlands of the great Caucasus range to the fertile agricultural lowlands, semi-desert monastery complexes and archaeological sites where the artifacts of the first Europeans were discovered, taste the most famous “Khvanchkara” wine and get acquaintance with exotic Georgian cuisine.

  1. Day 1 Arrival

    Arrive in Tbilisi. Overnight at hotel.

  2. Day 2 Tbilisi Sightseeing Tour

    Breakfast at hotel. Sightseeing tour of Tbilisi, capital city since 5th century; explore old town, visit 13th century old Metekhi church, cable-car journey up to 4th century Narikala fortress, walk to Botanical garden, *optional visit at 19th century Sunny mosque, free time for own arrangements  at sulfur bathhouses district, *optional visit at bathes for SPA treatment. Stroll in old town, visit 5th century Anchiskhati basilica, 19th century Caravanserai, art and carpet salons, enamel galleries, wine tasting at one of the wine bars, *optional visit to old Synagogue; Opera House, Former Parliament building, Art Palace, etc.

    Welcome dinner at traditional restaurant with folk performance. Overnight at hotel.

  3. Day 3 David Gareja Monastery

    Breakfast in hotel. Depart to David Gareja semi-desert area and monastery complex founded by one of the holly Syrian fathers David in 6th century. Visit Lavra monastery, hike to the natural border of Georgia and Azerbaijan to explore the frescoes of unique importance dated from 9th -14th centuries, all curved in rocks. Trip continues to Telavi – administrative center of Kakheti region. Cooking classes and wine tasting at one of the wineries. Dinner and overnight at hotel

  4. Day 4 Explore Kakheti Region

    Breakfast in hotel.  Visit 11th century Alaverdi cathedral, 12th century Ikalto monastery and the former academy. Wine tasting at one of the wineries en-route. Visit Gremi architectural complex dated to 16th -17th centuries, related to great Silk Road route.  Return to Tbilisi. Overnight at hotel

  5. Day 5 Mtskheta – The Former Capital

    Breakfast in hotel.  Depart to Mtskheta, the former capital of Kartli-Iberian kingdom, important political and cultural center from 3rd century BC recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site. Visit 6th century Jvari monastery, Svetitskhoveli cathedral and Samtavro nunnery – 11th century architectural monuments, celebrating as a cradle of Christianity. Trip continues to the north, along the Georgian military highway to 16th-17th centuries Ananuri architectural complex. Heat the road to Gudauri mountain resort.

  6. Day 6 Explore Stepandsminda

    After breakfast drive over Cross pass 2380 m. to Stepandsminda,(*former Kazbegi). Hike up 1.3-2 hr or 4WD drive to Gergeti Trinity church, dated from 14th century, located at 2180 m.  Enjoy the stunning view of Mt. Kazbeg 5047 m.

    Drive to Dariali to visit newly restored Dariali monastery or *optional hike 2-3 hr to Gweleti waterfalls. *Optional visit at “Felt House”, explore felt production, taste mountain herbal tea and jams. Transfer to Gudauri.

  7. Day 7 The Lesser Caucasus

    Breakfast in hotel. Depart from the high mountains towards the Lesser Caucasus, located southwest of Georgia. Visit Uplistsikhe rock-hewn city dated from 1st millennium BC, identified as one of the oldest urban settlements in Georgia. Explore the frescoes and bas-reliefs of Ateni Sioni located close to Gori.   *Optional visit at J. Stalin’s museum and house of birth.  Tasting Kartli wines at one of the Ateni wineries. Transfer to Borjomi Spa resort.

  8. Day 8 Cave City Vardzia

    Breakfast in hotel. Exploration of Samtskhe-Javakheti region. Excursion to 12th century Vardzia rock-hewn complex of rock-hewn walls, streets and hidden routes. Transfer to Akhaltsikhe, excursion to Rabati castle, dated from 13th century, restored recently.

    Dinner and overnight at hotel.

  9. Day 9 Drive to Kutaisi

    Breakfast in hotel. Passing Rickoti tunnel, depart to Kutaisi, the center of west Georgia. Brief stop at famous “Shrosha” clay market. Visit Bagrati cathedral built in 1003, reconstructed recently and Gelati monastery and former academy dated from 12th century.

    Free time for own arrangements to walk in the city. Dinner and overnight at hotel in Kutaisi.

  10. Day 10 Shaori Lake

    Breakfast in hotel.  Depart to Racha region, passing beautiful Lake Shaori en-rout. Visit Nikortsminda and Barakoni churches, unique and elegant style of architecture dated from 12th,13th centuries respectively. Exterior decorated with detailed multiple-figured stories and episodes from Georgian history. Tasting of “Khvanchkara” wine at one of the local wineries.

  11. Day 11 Black Sea Coast

    Breakfast in hotel. Transfer to Batumi, administrative center of Adjara region, the Black sea coast, cross-road of cultures, traditions, religions, habits and flavors. Sightseeing tour of Batumi and exploration of Gonio fortress, ancient Apsarus, Roman fortification dated back to 1st millennium BC. Boat cruise on the Black sea.

    Free time for own arrangements.

    Overnight at hotel.

  12. Day 12 Back to Tbilisi

    Breakfast at hotel. Morning for leisure. Drive Back to Tbilisi. Cheese and honey tasting at one of the families en-route. Visit Ubisa monastery dated from 9th century and famous for its fresco-paintings dated from 14th century by Damiane. Transfer to Tbilisi. Free evening for own arrangements. Dinner with folk performance at traditional restaurant with view of eliminated old town.

    Overnight at hotel.

  13. Day 13 The First Europeans

    After breakfast, drive to lower Kartli and visit Bolnisi basilica from 5th century famous for the oldest inscriptions referring to Georgian alphabet. Continue drive to medieval city Dmanisi, UNESCO world heritage site and well-known for its archaeological excavations revealing the trails of the first hominids migrated from Africa to Europe – The First Europeans!  Return to Tbilisi.

    Farewell dinner with folk and wine at traditional restaurant. Overnight at hotel

  14. Day 14 Departure

    Transfer to the airport.
