Among 13 monasteries spread in this area you will visit Lavra and Udabno. Then continue to the picturesque and the most fertile region of Georgia - Kakheti, which borders the Great Caucasus range from the north and Azerbaijan from the South. This historical valley is known as a rich viticulture part of Georgia, were concentrations of grape seeds has been known from 5th millennium BC. Exploring Kakheti province you will visit the most important architectural complexes, monuments and have a taste of variety of traditional dishes and famous wines. DRAFT ITINERARYDay 1 - Drive via David Gareja monastery to Telavi. Hike to Udabno (-/L/D) Day 2 - Sightseeing around Telavi. Drive back to Tbilisi (B/L/-) MAJOR HIGHLIGHTS David Gareja Monastery complex 6th century with 9-14th century frescos; Kvelatsminda church of 8th century Telavi – historical city in Kakheti province; Alaverdi Cathedral - an elegant church of 11th century with fragments of frescos from 11th up to 17th centuries. Old Shuamta Monastery dated from 7th - 9th cc. Tsinandali estate founded by famous public figure and poet Alexander Chavchavadze in19th century.
