Week-end to Imereti Region
Drive towards Kutaisi, ancient Capital of Kolkheti Kingdom, passing Rikoti tunnel that divides East and West parts of Georgia. Just nearby from Tbilisi, at the confluence of two rivers – the Mtkvari and the Aragvi visit the old Capital of Kartli - Iberia Kingdom - Mtskheta, known as a political and cultural center from 3rd century BC. Wonder at the beautiful traditional carving of the Svetiskhoveli, Samtavro and Jvari churches, the masterpiece of Georgian cultural heritage. Continue the excursion to Uplistsikhe rock-cut city, known from the first millennium BC. This important political and trading city mainly of the Hellenistic period keeps in the caves a cultural and religious spirit of different centuries. After lunch at the local restaurant drive directly to Kutaisi. Explore the ancient fortified residence of Kolkheti kings and Bagrati Cathedral built in 1003 by king Bagrat. Overnight at local guesthouse in Kutaisi.
Start next day with the morning excursion of Gelati Academy and monastery of 12th century with mosaics and frescoes from 12th to 17th century. After lunch at Rikoti pass on the way back to Tbilisi visit Stalin museum in Gori and Ateni Sioni church of 7th century with frescoes from 11th – 14th centuries. Evening arrive in Tbilisi.

Day 2 - Explore Imereti Area. Visit Gelati Academy. On the way back brief excursion of Stalinis museum and Ateni Sioni.
